#MVSTechClub in Action

Greetings and Salutations Middletown! At Middletown Village we are working on passion projects in our 4th and 5th Grade Tech Club. We are using various resources to share our learning about bullying, video editing, tanks, WWII, coding and more!

Here is a glimpse of one passion project in progress:

Joe, Dallas, & Aaron:
We are making a solar paneled tank. This tank will be modeled after WII tanks. It runs on solar power and it moves when it is exposed to sunlight. It has no way of stopping but it is still cool to watch! So far we were able to build the base of the tank and get it to move. Unfortunately we haven't had many sunny days to charge it and try the solar panel.

Here are some pictures of our WWII tank under construction.
Here are the supplies our solar panel kit came with.

It took forever to attach the wheel grips using these TINY screws

We were able to add the bar that holds the wheel

If you click here you can see a Google Slides presentation to teach people about WWII and tanks based on the research we conducted. We are still working on the presentation and plan to include the construction of our solar powered tank.

Check out this Boomerang video of our tank moving

We look forward to sharing our Passion Project at the Middletown Village School Technology & Science Fair. Thanks for checking out the #MVSTechClub in action. For an insiders look at our Passion Projects follow Mr. Font on Twitter @MVS_MrFont

Lincroft Tech Club

Third graders at Lincroft Elementary like tech club because….

I liked tech club because of all the fun I had from coding things like
ice cream on Bitsbox! But my favorite app was Light Bot because it was
challenging my brain to find the answer. I also liked the STEM challenge
it was very very challenging.

I loved coding because you have fun but challenge yourself at the same
time. Last time I learned how to make ice cream Sing! It was so cool and
hard at the same time! I created an animal house for my STEM challenge,
and it turned into this!

It was fun to learn to code and play fun games using technology.

In Tech Club we played very fun games on the chromebook like…
Spritebox, Lightbot, Bitsbox, and Code Combat.  We love coding!

Dolphins Are Teching It Out

Hello my name is Rian and I am the Bayshore Dolphin's Tech Team 8th grade team leader.  We have a team leader for each grade.  The team leaders meet on a different day to plan activities.  We suggest the activities to the Tech Team and they pick what they want to work on.

This year we have been working more on coding because that is what the team picked to work on.  Some of the team already had projects they did in Scratch and they shared them so we could remix them. We also did activities from the Hour of Code. We also are working on some of the activities in Khan Academy.  Right now we are looking at the Scratch that is in Beta and comparing the two.  We have worked on some projects with Makey-Makey and will be doing things with Little Bits and the Drone.

We also helped Dr. Strobel pilot Google AR.  The Tech Team actually led the different sessions with the students.  We have also helped out in some of the different classrooms.  We are looking forward to meeting with some of the Leonardo Elementary School students to do a joint project.
